How fit is your recruitment process?
The natural development for ClearChoice Careers, the recruitment organisation, was to recognise that our clients not only want to hire great people- they want to keep them too. As a result we launched a new division to complement our Recruitment Services. As well as supplying our clients with a low cost alternative to finding well matched applicants, we now provide a HR Support Service to help ensure that the right applicants are hired and retained by our clients through a range of personal development training and through our coaching workshops. You can either join an existing half day workshop (current list on the Training Diary below) or receive a bespoke tailored programme delivered by Michael Coates, Managing Consultant. Michael has recruited across the world, is the author of "Psychology and Organisations" and is a coach to senior managers in a number of blue chip organisations.
Michael has delivered a free "Taster Session" at the last two CIPD exhibitions -his last was at CIPD ACE "Identifying and Integrating Competencies into your Recruitment Processes."
Presenting the business case for utilising competencies effectively. An introduction to identifying valid competencies and how to integrate them into a range of people/HR processes.
How does ClearChoice Careers HR Support differ from other skills training?

Plus exiting “wrong choice employees” via standard process or compromise agreement. Our coaching and workshops are designed to sharpen skills to a whole new level.
Why focus on improving your recruiting skills?
Hiring the wrong person can over a period of time cost your organisation tens, and possibly hundreds of thousands of ££££, not to mention the damage to your own reputation. With an intensive programme of support you can beat the odds and hire champions! All of our HR Support Consultancy Services can be used as a stand-alone service or in conjunction with ClearChoice Careers Recruitment Services.

INTEGRATING COMPETENCIES INTO HR PROCESSES
Many organisations simply dabble with competencies or are aware that they should use them without them being implemented. Others do have a comprehensive competency module but fail to integrate it into full employee life cycle processes i.e. from recruitment through to exit. Then there are the organisations with full blown competency based processes, but have little evidence that those competencies are a valid predictor of excellent performance.
This half day workshop, shows the business case for utilising competencies effectively and aims to provide a basic introduction to identifying valid competencies and integrating them into a range of people/HR processes.

-
What is a competency?
-

-
Why use them? - The business case
-
How to develop a competency model using methods such as repertory grid
-
Assessing through performance management process or 360 questionnaire
-
How to word a competency

The workshop will be delivered by Michael Coates, a management consultant and author of “Psychology and Organisations”. WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING WITH YOU:
A competency framework (if you have one)
A sample job description: If you have a current vacancy, it would be helpful to bring a relevant job description, in order to enable you to develop a competency model
This is an interactive workshop where you will learn the practical skills for competency based interviewing, along with a basic coverage of the legal and psychological background to interviewing in general.
Aimed at anyone who wants to improve their interview skills, it is particularly useful if you have upcoming interviews, as you will have an opportunity to:
-
Identify the critical competencies
-
Design competency based questions
-
Agree what a "good" example would look like
-
Practice rating answers
If you do not have an interview coming up, then you can either concentrate on a potential vacancy or use sample materials that we can provide.
In addition to the practical element this workshop will:
Help you build a business case for moving your organisation towards using competencies
Provide an overview of employment legislation such as the Equality Act
Cover many tips and tricks
Allow you to share best practice, concerns and questions, with fellow delegates.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Anyone involved in interviewing applicants: HR, Recruitment Consultants, Line Managers
EFFECTIVE USE OF PSYCHOMETRICS
Psychometrics such as aptitude tests, personality profiles and 360 degree questionnaires are increasingly being used to screen job applicants, assist with hiring decisions, identify and develop top talent plus unfortunately, to make decisions for which they were not designed and could potentially bring about a legal challenge.
This half day workshop is aimed at HR professionals, recruiters, coaches, BPS practitioners, HR advisors and business owners. It will provide a thorough grounding in how to get the best Return On Investment (ROI) from psychometrics and avoid legal pitfalls. Delegates will also get to see and understand the differences between all of the leading tools in this arena, e.g. SHL (aptitude and OPQ) MBTI, Hogan, DISC, Belbin and PDI.
WHAT WILL BE COVERED?
-
What are psychometrics?
-
Are they a valid tool?
-
When and how should they be used to obtain the optimum ROI
-
How to integrate into HR processes such as recruitment
-
Pitfalls - how not to use them (e.g. redundancy selection)
-
Potential legal challenges (NB, their use for recruitment is not legal in some countries and parts of USA)
-
Employment law regarding recruitment and redundancy selection
-
Data Protection. How to obtain, store, use and destroy psychometric data
-
Using them when employees are from diverse backgrounds and English is a second language
-
How to write a psychometric policy
-
Overview of tools such as OPQ, Hogan HPI, HS and MVPI, MBTI and others
-
Examples of best practice
The workshop will be delivered by Michael Coates, a management consultant and author of “Psychology and Organisations” who has been using Psychometrics around the world for 15 years and is certified by all the main providers.

Anyone involved in the hiring or management of staff: HR, Recruiters, Coaches, BPS Practitioners, Business Owners
Attrition rates in the first year of employment have remained stubbornly high across UK organisations for the last 10 years despite greater awareness of the importance of effective on-boarding (induction.) This workshop is designed to provide both the business case for effective on-boarding and to share best practice.
WHAT WILL BE COVERED?
-
What is on-boarding? Is it different to induction?
-
Legal background to first two years of employment
